A Part-Time Socialite’s Guide to D.C. Dining

D.C. Restaurants Worth a Chapter in Your Future Memoir

Ahh, yes. Washington D.C… Capital of the United States? Sure. Of consulting and political journalism? Absolutely. But of romanticized lives and wistful dreams? Wrong city, friend. How about a buzzy dining and social scene? Well… sometimes.

If you find yourself spending a weekend in the District and in need of a main character story arc where you fall in love while sipping a morning cappuccino, meet the parents over French cuisine, break up over take-out curry, drink away the memory on a glitzy girls night out, and find yourself again in a 6 a.m. spin class, my first advice is to accidentally hop on the Amtrak in the direction of New York City instead. But here are your next best options:

BREAKFAST

Caffeine optional, but encouraged.

LUNCH

Or “brunch” if you must.

DINNER

“We recommend 2-3 plates per person.”

DRINKS

For post-dinner hangouts or the occasional rave.

Now, while this certainly isn’t an exhaustive list of D.C. spots that will put you in the main character state of mind, it’s a pretty good start and certainly enough to fill a weekend or two.

Disclaimer: I’m merely a part-time socialite. And by socialite I mean I keep a circle of approximately ten friends. But I’m great at planning, so trust me…maybe.
